How To Hide A Local or Networked Drives in Windows XP

This is yet another trick you can play with your friend. To disable the display of local or networked drives when you click My Computer.
This is useful if you don’t want just any average user to be able to easily detect, access and navigate a hard disk that is attached to your system.

Just follow this steps…..

Step #1: Navigate to Start > Run and type “regedit” and hit “Enter”.

Step #2: Go To –>

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Policies\Explorer

Step #3: Now in the right pane create a new DWORD item and name it NoDrives.

Step #4: Now modify it’s value and set it to 3FFFFFF (Hexadecimal).

Now press F5 to refresh or restart your computer. When you click on My Computer, no drives will be shown.

To enable display of drives in My Computer, simply delete this DWORD item From :

[ HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Policies\Explorer ]
